PINTANDO LA LUZ - Miguel Ángel García
10 - 29 January
WRITINGS The first photographs I saw by Miguel Ángel García were already concerned with concrete, synthetic and abstract images. Later, in an individual exhibition he had in Madrid, we could already see in his photographs the desire to say something from a personal point of view. In his latest work we are talking here about a series of photographs that he has called “Painting the light”, and that bring together images in which light and the abstract play a leading role. It seems that Miguel Ángel García has discovered the weapons with which to fight in the passionate world of author photography. For this reason he has left to one side the photo to focus more on the graphic, on ghostly areas in which the light leaves its trace to create emotional paths. The reference point, more than ever before, lies in the background and what interests the viewer is its soul, its halo, its “lightprint”. Miguel Ángel has succeeded in reaching a more lyrical and cutting-edge abstraction, far from those first abstractions of textures and colour. He now presents us with these large scale pieces with the confidence that he has gained from knowing that work and effort have paid off. Thus, we can say that Miguel Ángel – in his search – has been true to himself but at the same time has striven to reach a personal and contemporary discussion point. The road is open and along it he will certainly offer us more refined work in the future. It is necessary to keep going and make the discoveries (such as the magnificent image titled “Tribute to Philippe Starck”) form the keys to open the doors for later work. Ciuco Gutiérrez
